Apply for a Dropped Kerb

Mar 21, 2020 | Applying for a drop kerb

How to Apply for a Dropped Kerb

A dropped kerb gives you to access your drive from across the pathway. Permission from your local council is required if you want to drive over the pathway to your driveway.

Planning permission is required because the pavement may need to be strengthened underneath to take the weight of a car driving across it. Another reason for planning is there could be cables or pipework running under the pavement.

You can find out more about dropped kerbs from the Gov website.

Lincs Groundworks can take all the hassle away from you by organising the planning permission from the council through themselves.

Apply for a dropped kerb, things to consider.

  • Make sure your driveway is big enough for your vehicle? Sounds obvious I know but check just in case.
  • Check with your local council about permission for your kerbs. alternatively, ask Lincs Groundworks to take the hassle away and they can work on your behalf when dealing with the council.
  • For the average household dropped kerb driveway, the amount of kerbs to be dropped is five.
  • Find out the costs and what is involved, like drainage and finished materials.
  • The council can refuse planning, do not panic you can appeal. Ask the local Council Planning Department to explain how to appeal.
  • Finally, people sometimes wonder if the section of footpath that they’ve paid to have altered belongs to them. It doesn’t: the Council still owns it!
